Oruro Carnival 2026 – Living Heritage of Humanity
The Oruro Carnival, declared a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, is one of Bolivia’s most important cultural expressions and one of the most spectacular festivals in Latin America. Every year, thousands of dancers take to the streets of Oruro in a powerful display of faith, identity, and tradition, paying devotion to the Virgin of the Socavón in a celebration found nowhere else in the world.
The richness of the carnival is reflected in the extraordinary variety of traditional dances, such as the Diablada, Morenada, Caporales, Tinku, and many others, all accompanied by vibrant brass bands whose music fills the city with energy and emotion. Adding to this are the magnificent costumes, true works of art featuring intricate embroidery, beadwork, and vivid colors, crafted by skilled Bolivian artisans.
Experiencing the Oruro Carnival means immersing yourself in a celebration full of joy, culture, and unforgettable fun, where every step, melody, and detail tells an ancient story that remains alive today. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will stay with you forever.
