INCA TRAIL, CORDILLERA DE LOS ANDES

Bolivia is an ideal country for mountain and trekking activities. The Andean Cordillera and its branches crossing through the country offer experienced and novice thrill seekers the possibility of defying increasingly their skills. The most visited mountains are the following:

- Illimani, Mururata, Condoriri, Huayna Potosí, in Cordillera Real
- Sajama, Pomarape and Parinacota, in Cordillera Occidental (western)

Regarding trekking, Bolivia is part of the great network of Caminos de Inca (Inca treks) or Qhapaq Ñam. One of its most valued routes is the pre-Columbian trek known as Chucura or Choro passing through Cotapata National Park in Los Yungas, La Paz.

The most visited mountain on this cordillera for short treks and panoramic view is Chacaltaya, a defunct ski slope that is located 50 minutes from the city of La Paz.

1 day hike, great opportunity for acclimatation and to prepare the body for new mountain climbing  (5.300m.a.s.l.)

1 day trek at the Parque Nacional Tuni Condoriri, through high mountain lagoons and beautiful landscapes at the foot of the 5.648 m.a.s.l. mountain

2 days trek crossing the mountains of the Cordillera Real towards the subtropical zone of Los Yungas, along the pre-columbian roads also called "Inca Trails".

  • 1 camping night at 3700 m.a.s.l

3 days trek crossing the mountains of La Cumbre towards Coroico in Los Yungas, from an altitud of 4.600 to 1.300 m.a.s.l.

  • 2 camping nights

It is the most visited mountain among those with an altitude higher than 6 thousand meters, recommended for climbers acclimated to altitude.
On the 1st day starting from the base camp near the ghost town of Milluni, we climb up to 5000 m.a.s.l. On the second day very early we head towards the summit at 6088 m.a.s.l.

Visit to the Sajama National Park where the Sajama volcano is located, it is the highest in Bolivia with 6542 m.a.s.l. Hike through queñua forests, geysers, Khasiri and Sorapata lagoons. Also visit to the polychrome chullpas (funerary inca tombs) of the Lauca River.
