DAY 1: UYUNI – SALAR DE UYUNI – UYUNI

We begin the tour at 10 am approximately from the meeting point. Our first visit will be the Train Cemetery (also called Train Graveyard), it is possible to observe a great number of antique steam locomotives and rail wagons of the early railroad days, built mainly in France and England. Then we arrive to Colchani whose residents extract the salt using rudimentary tools.

Now we are inside the magnificent Salar de Uyuni, on our way we will observe the “Ojos de Agua” (Water Eyes), are holes on the surface of the salt plain, inside which the brine (salt saturated water) located under the superficial crust bubbles up. Arrival at the Playa Blanca Hotel which is built of salt blocks, the general construction is very rustic and since it’s settled in the middle of the Salar it has a unique attractiveness.

We will drive towards Incahuasi Island located 102 Km. from Uyuni village. It stands in the center of the salt flat, and it is the highlight of today’s trip due to the stunning flora and fauna unique in the world, we will make a short hike to the top of the island to enjoy the wonderful landscape. Then we will have some time at the Salar de Uyuni to take beautiful pictures and if you want some funny ones too.

Finally, we head back towards Uyuni but before enjoy the natural spectacle of colors of the sunset.

*During rainy season, due to the flood of the salt flat, the visits to the attractions inside the salt flat might be suspended without previous notice

DAY 2: COQUESA – JOYAS ALTOANDINAS – HEDIONDA LAGOON

Around 09:00am, we begin going south, we get to a viewpoint to observe Ollagüe Volcano at the distance, this volcano remains a natural border with Chile is, it has smoke near the top because is an active volcano.
Now it is time to go to the “Joyas Andinas” a group of beautiful lagoons, the first one is Cañapa Lagoon is surrounded by mountainous terrain and extinct volcanoes, its green color water contrasts majestically with the flamboyant colored flamingos that inhabit the area. Then Laguna Hedionda (Smelly Lagoon) is a rather strange lagoon, the sulfur saturated waters give off an odor, this lagoon is also home of flamingos and variety of wild ducks and partridges.

Overnight at our ecolodge “Los Flamencos” at 4500 masl, located in a place in which landscape has colors combined magnificently.

DAY 3: HEDIONDA LAGOON – EDUARDO AVAROA RESERVE – UYUNI

Departure around 6:30 am, today we will visit Eduardo Abaroa National Reserve, on the way we will visit the Árbol de Piedra (Stone Tree), a very particular eolic formation in the heart of Siloli Desert at 4.600 m.a.s.l.

The highlight of the day is the beautiful color lagoon, but before going there we will visit Sol de Mañana, where we can observe the bubbling mud “fumaroles” emerge from the depths of the earth. Then we begin the visit at the beautiful Red Lagoon (Laguna Colorada), which receives its name from the reddish colored waters (especially in winter), caused by the presence of “plankton”, a microscopic algae of the specie called Dunaliella Salina.

After lunch it is time to begin the trip back to Uyuni, it takes around 6 hours, we will pass by the great Valley of the Rocks and the nice town of “San Cristobal”.

Arrival to Uyuni at 6 pm approximately.
