Imagine 40,000 years ago, a giant prehistoric lake eventually dried out and created two salt deserts, Salar de Coipasa and Uyuni; many adventurers are amazed by beauty of the endless white flats. The Uyuni Salt Flat (Salar de Uyuni) lies at the altitude of 3,650 meters in the Bolivian Altiplano, salt mining is still a crucial activity for many locals specially at the town of Colchani, however, tourists come here to admire the night sky, the unusual charm of a pristine white desert and the famous Salt Hotels at the sorroundings, this exotic hotels are mostly built from the raw material available: salt; the walls are made of salt blocks, the furniture is carved out of salt, and that is including the beds. The only trace of modern materials are the toilets, roof and of course the lighting.

Activities: The Uyuni Salt Flats becomes a fantastic spectacle at times (December to March) when a thin layer of water covers the flats and reflects the sky, then it becomes into the "World´s Biggest Mirror". Especially sun rise and sun set are most bewitching to watch here at Salar de Uyuni. The salt desert is not exactly a leisure holiday destination, though this hotels can bring a bit of luxury and a unique experience to your trip.
